ROSSI RULES ROOSTERS IN GAME 1
In game one of the Ruthlandian League Championship Series at the Palazzo di Sport in Taranto, the hometown Tars stopped the Middletown bats cold with a 5-1 drubbing... 15-game winner Valerio Rossi (2-0/1.46) was in dominating form as he stopped the Roosters on five hits... Rossi went all the way, fanned five batters and walked only one to put Taranto one leg up in the best-of-seven series... Middlefield is the Pro Cup favorite and last year's Islandian titlewinner... the Tars tagged Rooster pitching for 12 hits, led by CF Renzo Caruso (.304) with two hits and a two-run home run... and 3B Gaetano Palombo (333) with three base hits... 23-game winner James Long (2-1/1.88) was no match for Taranto... they solved him for five runs and 10 hits in his six innings.
WOLVES WIN ON HOLLOWAY HR IN 12TH
Not a lot of pitching at Typhoon Stadiuim in Turon in the opening game of the Tycobbian title series... there were 22 runs and 33 hits in the game, won by the visiting Midway Wolvers 12-10 on Derek Holloway's two-run homer in the top of the 12th frame... Turon blew two big leads... they were up 6-0 after two innings and 9-4 going into the 7th... Midway piled up 16 hits with 2B Derek Holloway (.524) leading the way with three hits and four RBIs... LF Lew Dillinger (.375) also had three hits and drove in a pair of runs... and SS Kax Clark (.429) chimed in with three hits, two runs and an RBI... Turon got four hits, three runs and three ribbies from RF Andy Wilkerson (.316) and three hits and three RBIs from 3B Joel Guidry (.440)... there were nine pitchers in the game... four by Midway and five by Turons... taking the victory was Rocket Rhodes (2-0/0.00/3G) with three shutout innings.
