Season 11 1922 5 Straight Titles!
ST PETERSBURG-Wow! The drive for 5 was complete with a series victory over Tallahassee again!!!! It is the 7th championship for the Parrots franchise! Another amazing thing is the fact that the Parrots have only won the regular season twice! The other five have come when they have finished in 2nd place. This year was extra special as the Parrots sneaked into the playoffs on the last day of the season. Newcomers to the league, Kendall West, blew a September lead to let the Parrots into the playoffs.
Records go Down!
Many records were broken this season. Especially offensively.
1. Kevin Naylor (TAL) won the batting title with a league record .378 AVG.
2. Nathan Manganella (KW) hit 40 triples!
3. Daniel "High Pockets" Andrade (CC) set the record for homers (26), RBI's (136), and total bases (372).
4. Alan Beasley (KW) scored 131 runs.
5. Tim Tugman of Orlando won 33 games!
Awards:
Tugman was selected POTY for the Schooners with a record of 33-19. He also was named MVP for the 1922 season.
What about Tony Gaston whose name usually occupies the awards category? He finished the season 11-13, as age is becoming a factor. He is 38 years old.
