Anthony Young (1966 - 2017)

According to Lenny Harris, former Mets and Cubs hurler Anthony Young passed away this afternoon. Anthony was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor earlier this year. A pitcher with undeniable talent, Young nonetheless gained fame for his losing streak while with the Mets. Between 1992 and 1993, he dropped 27 straight decisions, besting the old franchise mark of 19 straight losses by Craig Anderson from 1962-1964 and the previous major league mark of 23 straight losses by Cliff Curtis for the NL Boston franchise (then known as the Doves and Rustlers) in 1910 and 1911. In one of the last showings (IMHO) of old school Mets spirit, the fans rallied around Young during this stretch and he became quite the fan favorite. You don't see that kind of thing from Mets fans much these days. Which makes me sad.

The Mets and Cubs images below have been on my hard drive for some time. I think the Cubs image might be an Uncle Maxie. The Astros image is from ebay and Mothers Cookies.

Edit: As soon as I'd posted, I went out to Uncle Maxie's current web site (under his own name, Steve Moore) and he had just posted his gallaries of Young. So I can confirm that the Cubs image IS one of his.
