This guy was a bit of a hard-luck case his whole career. He made the majors at age 17. Then missed 4 years due to military service (ages 19-22). Came back at age 23 and was brilliant for 7 years, then just solid but not brilliant in his age 30 season before the career-ending injury at age 31. Without the hard luck, he'd be a lock for the hall-of-fame. As it is, he'll probably still make it: career .332/.421/.422, 49.8 WAR. But maybe not...
