Smith put the Red Sox on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. Petrocelli added a sac fly RBI.

The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the second. And failed to score as Ford was thrown out at home to retire the side after Maddox flew out to left.

Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers to start the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Harrah tied the game with a 2-run homer. Bobby Bolin then replaced Curtis on the mound. Joe Lovitto got a pinch hit single but injured his knee and had to leave the game. Maddox then gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single. Biittner tried to add to the list but Tom Grieve was thrown out at home trying to score from second on the base hit.

Horacio Pina was brought on to pitch the ninth for the Rangers. Griffin tied the game with an RBI single, Boston's tenth hit of the game, and Fisk won it with an RBI double.

Final score: Boston 4 Texas 3.
