HOLY GRAIL BATTLE BEGINS WED
September is a special time to all of the baseball fans in the Islands... 8 premier teams in the Islandian Pro Alliance go head-to-head seeking the ultimate quest -- the Holy Grail of Islandia -- the IPA Pro Cup... play begins this Wednesday afternoon all around the Islands... there will be three rounds, the Division Championship Series, League Championship Series and the IPA Pro Cup Finals... all series will be best-of-seven... the lone surviving team will be awarded the grand prize -- the IPA Pro Cup trophy.
The reigning IPA crown holder Midway Wolves (107-47) will be tested in the first round by the Arlon Champions (99-55) in the Tycobbian Union... the White River Rascals (89-65) are pitted against the Turon Typhoons (104-50) in the other series.
In the Ruthlandian Union the Middlefield Roosters (104-50) will engage the Wynnamac Sundowners (94-60) and last year's Pro Cup finalist, Taranto Tars (86-68), will be challenged by the Valka Blackhawks (82-72).
Among this year's participants, Turon has accumulated the most Pro Cups... the Typhoons captured the trophy in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2018... next in line is Middlefield with two titles... 2005 and 20052... four of the clubs have claimed one Pro Cup... Midway won last year in 2053... Arlon in 2051... Taranto in 2015 and Wynnamac in 2008... White River and Valka have never won the overall IPA championship.
Five of the postseason participants are back again this season: current IPA champ Midway and last year's finalist, Taranto, along with Turon, Middlefield and Wynnamac... White River and Arlon made the playoffs last in 2051... poor Valka hasn't appeared in the Pro Cup playoffs since 2017.
