The second win of the season for
Nikolai Surikov who was one of four runners who made a one-stop race work, and he and
Wolfgang Schmidt capitalized big time on that.
"I knew I had to give it all when I saw the two Silver Arrows coming up in the mirror. I just threw it of the inside of
Wolfgang and hoped he would give up the place... and I was able to get in front of him and let him fight with the
Steinmann',
Surikov said about the final two laps.
Rossini's Failing:
"I just had no power,"
Dieter Wexler said in the team radio. The reason for that was that he messed up the clutch settings for the start during the formation lap, via his race engineer. That one cost him a ton of places, time ,and let him finish 11th and out of the points.
Niilo Saarinen on the other hand had to watch some pure gold by his pit crew. He came for his final pitstop, his guys took four wheels off... and only three back initially as one was missing. "Amateur mistake," said BBC's Martin Brundle on the telecast.
They would've had problems winning the race anyways as they only had fresh softs available while the
Steinmann cars went on supersoft.
The Scrutineering Saga Continues:
As
Zoe Sharp went from sixth to eighth due to an illegal front wing, and
Rick De Graaf went back SIX places for having an extra fuel tank hidden in the sidepod of his car. Some things never change.
With Twelve Races in the Books:
It is hopeless fight for
Nina Holtz and the rest.
Harry Chapman will win it and the same for the Constructors. The
Panthers edged closer to third place there, and no movement on the back.
Thornton on its way down...
