2016 UAE GP(16/16): Race Notebook

Dieter Wexler in the Rossini car with the prancing horse engine has let it fly today and earned his first victory of the season and career. "Finally, I had to wait long for that. Podiums, yes, but race wins? Niilo had a couple, but I had to wait. Bad qualifying, but we made it work. Great work by the guys in the factory, we come back stronger next year," he added.

Minding their Own Business:
"They could've gotten past Wexler, but they decided to fight themselves," concluded commentator Martin Brundle, talking about the two Steinmann cars. "There is no love lost between Nina and Harry," he added. "They won't race together next year, I'm pretty sure about that."

They still won both Championships, but there are questions if Chapman got he better equip or he beat the German on equal terms.

Driving off into the Sunset:
That was taken too literally by a number of drivers as the crash happy Yas Marinas Circuit colleced it's prey. Lucía Flores, Samuel Blanc and Jenny North all made their own little mistakes, and it ended their race and in the case of Samuel Blanc, got the safety car out.

"Sorry for the team and my engineers. Not the way this team wanted to leave this series, and not the way I wanted to see this season end," the Thornton driver said already during the race.

With Sixteen Races in the Books:
There has been a ton of stories. Steinmann and Chapman domination, the scrutineering saga of Holtz car and the Rezzato Corsa, the cinderella story of Lotus Racing, going from hopeless backmarkers to seventh in the Constructors, and the disappointing year of Kitano-Honda and Thornton.

The race will be on once again next season, new cars, the suppliers will be shuffled, a new team will arrive in Espirit GP, and there are some drivers to be signed for 2017, including the World Champion!

Enjoy the offseason!
