Post-Race Analysis: 2016 UAE GP(16/16)
Ok, that was all on me. We pitted under the safety car... and with 10 laps to go after the safety car came in, I split the strategy and gave Jeremy the risky soft tyre, and Iker the safe medium tyre. Then, I realized that the medium one will last very long... and told Iker to push, push, and while he is at it... push.
That of course means the risk of running wide increases, and it ultimately happened and cost us World Championship point as Vázquez cashed in for Kitano-Honda. We still finished seventh in the Constructors and got us some serious cash, almost $46M of price money.
One contract thing, our reserve driver's contract is running out. We have a reserve driver, you ask? Yes, indeed we have, but because he is no good and not a good feedback master, he did not really feature here... Two ways to go. Get a pay driver that gives us $400k for driving the free practice in Vidal's car, or get someone that can deliever good feedback... we will scout the market and make a decision later this winter.
Where to go with that?
Development Report:
Ok, we will finish performance work on the new engine, and put some work in on the newest rear wing before the chassis deadline.
Now, to the money. We got the worst bunch of cheap supplies for our 2016 chassis, and the 2017 one won't be so cheap... as we can make some progress here. Of course, you can spent an unlimited amount of money on this, and we want to upgrade the factory for 2017.
Goals for the suppliers: Keep improbability and fuel consumption around the levels of 2016, but add some tyre wear and tyre heating capabilities AND grab a engine manufacturer with a better basic engine. The BMW one basically was unsupported by them...
News Report:
Before the last cars reached their factories, there already were some breaking news in the GMA. Kitano Sports had two driver slots open with José Vázquez and Jenny North leaving the squad into likely retirement. And they spent a big chunk of money, buying out Zoe Sharp out of her Panther contract and giving here a huge $23.5M deal. She was fourth in the driver's Championship with 167 points.
Also joining Kitano will be frenchman Samuel Blanc from Thornton Motorsport. The 32-year old outperformed his teammate this season, but managed only 11th place as high water mark in 2016. He will be battling with Jens Bergman for the second seat.
The Panther Race Team had a replacement all lined up and announced 23-year old Brit Winston Margate as second driver. A first lap hero by trait, the 23-year old is very popular in the UK after winning a number of races in the British Touring Car Championship. Decent pickup.
