SuperTournament Round 1 Results!
Before I announce the organization for the next round, I want to cover which franchises have what teams moving forward.

Surprises? Perhaps. The Orioles just got wrecked. They have some good teams remaining of course. Really, that franchise only had one strong time (late 60s, early 70s) and everything since then hasn't been too strong. Also, the Phillies are a surprise in the opposite direction. Part of this is that their early teams had both strikeout pitching (Pete Alexander) and home runs (Gavvy Cravath) when few other teams did. The other part is that their peaks in the 80s and around 2010 were both very strong. Still, a surprising amount of success.
Advancing Specifically:
The top 336 teams advanced (3/8ths of the 900). The cutoff ended up being 125 wins. The decision of which 125 win teams to eliminate (as there were 15 for 11 spots) was made by team WAR in their simulated season. It wasn't close. The DH leagues were weirdly top-heavy: they had a disproportionate number of teams with great records, but proportionately fewer teams with good records. Accordingly, only 99 DH teams made the cut, which means that the DH leagues are smaller (and the paired Original Leagues are the same size). The default theory was 6 leagues of 56 teams (28 on each side) but the disproportion required changes.

There's no question the quality of team has jumped a lot here. I'm surprised to see the early era so concentrated in that Original League; 44% of the teams coming from before 1940 is a big surprise. This group has two best-finishing Round 1 teams, the 1997 Yankees and the 1998 Astros. Should be fun.
