2017 South African GP(7/16): Live Race Tracker

South African GP: Race Ticker
motorsport-live.com
July 2nd, 2017

Fans, team principals and writers still are trying to find out where the pace of the pole setter comes from, but it is as it is, Aki Lipponen is on pole position in front of Chapman, Wexler and Holtz.

It was a bit of a strange qualifying as only a few runners improved in their second attempt, including Iker Vidal, who showed good pace and was only half a second slower than the pole man.

Lap 1:
The blankets are off... and up to P10, all drivers are on the ultra soft with only Niilo Saarinen starting on the red striped soft tyre. Looking at the track, turn one should be flat out with no problem, but the chicane after that will be the point where all will be kicking off after the start, keep an eye on that folks...

The red lights are on... one.. two... three... four... five...

AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!

LIPPONEN AND MOST FRONT RUNNERS CLEAR AWAY FROM THE START AND THROUGH TURN ONE... into turn two... NINA HOLTZ AND IKER VIDAL GO THROUGH THE INSIDE OF THE CHICANE AND GAIN MASSIVE PLACES... and are up into second and third!

Both pass Lipponen in the roundabout traffic, Holtz leads the race in front of Vidal at the second intermediate! But Vidal gets it wrong in turn 14... and Chapman and Lipponen slip through...

AND THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER GOES WIDE... AND FALLS WAY BACK... P17 FOR WEXLER! THE TWO SILVER ARROWS LEAD THE RACE AND THE ROSSINI ARE P8 AND P17!

1. Holtz 2. Chapman +2.5 3. Lipponen +3.3
Vidal P4 +4.2
Woodford P12 +8.0

Vidal with a personal best, 1:14.922, but still four tenth of a second slower than Lipponen.

1. Holtz 2. Chapman +1.6 3. Lipponen +3.4
Vidal P4 +7.3
Woodford P14 +23.7

Lap 5:
"OK, Harry, Vidal is holding up the pack, get the other car and pass her, and then you can streak away easily," via Chapman's team radio.
