Mark Dempsey 1982
Mark Dempsey was the Giants 26th round pick in the 1980 June draft out of Ohio State. Mark was previously drafted by the Astros in the 9th round in 1979 but he returned to school. Mark had an exceptional start to his career going 14-1 with a 2.61 E.R.A at Great Falls (Pioneer League) with 109 K and 27 BB in 114 IP. He followed that up with a 15-7 mark in 1981 at AA Shreveport (Texas League) striking out 136 in 165 IP. He struggled at AAA in 1982 going 10-10 with a 5.47 E.R.A but made his big league debut in September as he started against the soon to be World Champion Cardinals. The Cards knocked him around as he gave up 6 hits and 3 ER in 2.2 IP including a HR to Willie McGee. The Giants did come back and win that game though so he got a ND. He threw 2 more games in relief in 1982 and never pitched again in the big leagues. He played just two more seasons spending 1983 back in AAA with the Giants and 1984 at AA with the Cubs.
