Murcer leads the AL in home runs and he hit a solo shot in the top of the first. Munson added an RBI triple.
Harrah got his 50th hit of the season with a single in the bottom of the first. Biittner then gave the Rangers the lead with a 3-run homer.
Rogers ended the top of the second by striking out Alou for his 40th K of the season.

Howard grounded into the 6-4-3 in the bottom of the fourth but Harrah scored on the play.
Blomberg scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth.

Spikes singled in the top of the eighth to give the Yankees 10 hits for the game. Pinch hitter John Ellis then gave the Yankees the lead back with a 2-run single.
After a leadoff double by Mason in the bottom of the eighth, Sparky Lyle replaced Kekich on the mound for the Yankees. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Lyle struck out Nelson for his 20th K of the season. Maddox walked to load the bases with one out. Burroughs then walked to tie the game. Harrah then gave the Rangers the lead back with a 2-run double that put him over 20 RBI on the season.
Steve Rogers got his fourth win and the Rangers finally had a 3-game winning streak.
Final score: Texas 7 New York 5.
