Except for one bad innning, the Rangers have surprisingly out played the Royals in this series. Pete Broberg's performance yesterday brought his ERA on the season to below 5.0. The series in Kansas City ends today with a double header. Jeff Burroughs is still second in voting for AL All Star RF.

Hedlund had a no-hitter through three.

Hand ended the third innning by striking out Mayberry for his 40th K of the season.

Piniella broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Hedlund walked the first three batters he faced to give the Rangers bases loaded with nobody out. One out later and Howard walked to tie the game. But that is all the Rangers would get. Through six, Hedlund had allowed just 1 hit. But he had walked 8.

The Rangers would go on to load the bases with two out but Howard flew out to left to retire the side.

The Royals had already scored walk off runs off Gogolewski twice this series. But he would get two groundouts to end the game and give the Rangers a double header split and a series split.
