I think it looks fine. I wouldn't worry about your sim having almost 50 percent more homers than real life when it's 1873, because the real number of homers was so low. There were 47 home runs hit in the National Association that year. An increase of 49.9 percent means 23 extra homers. Which, yeah, is a 50 percent increase - but it's also less than 3 per team.

Now, if you sim 2017 and get a 50 percent increase in homers...then give the MVP to Giancarlo Stanton and his 88 home runs. But in 1873, I don't think it's a big deal since so few homers were hit in real life.
