I will take the ironic position that I would say Bama is probably the better choice for the playoff. I'm not sure who has the better resume. Ohio State has better wins but worse losses. I think the committee wasn't ready to set the precedent of two losses as acceptable yet.

Personally, I didn't want to see Clemson wax us 31-0 for a second year in a row, so I'm just as happy to avoid the CFP. Not mention the optics of getting selected two years in a row for the exact opposite reasons. Even I can't defend that.

UCF got rewarded for their great season by losing their coach. I suspect that means they will also get waxed in the bowl game, but bowl games aren't very indicative of a team's ability anyway.
