The final game before the All Star Break. And a surprise for the Rangers. Despite finishing second in the voting for LF, Jeff Burroughs will not be the first All Star in Texas Rangers history. That honor will go to Toby Harrah who did not even finish in the top three for SS.

Hisle hit a solo home run in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first, Burroughs tied the game with an RBI double. Biittner then gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single. The Rangers went on to load the bases with two out but Suarez grounded to third to end the inning.
Bosman ended the top of the second by striking out Kaline for his 60th K of the season.
Rain began to fall in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, the game was stopped for a 43 minute rain delay. When play resumed, Mason picked up an RBI on a ground ball that was misplayed by McAuliffe.
After three: Texas 3 Detroit 1.
In the top of the sixth, Horton drew his 20th walk of the season.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mason hit a solo home run. Later in the innning, Maddox extended his hit streak to 11 games by smashing a 3-run homer.
After six: Texas 7 Detroit 1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Harrah extended his hit streak to 11 games as well with a solo home run. His 10th homer of the season and the Rangers 10th hit of the game. The Rangers put runners at first and second and nobody out and the Tigers finally pulled LaGrow and brought Chris Zachary in to pitch. It was Zachary's first appearance of the season. Zachary got out of the innning with no more damage being done.
In the top of the ninth, Bosman allowed a 2-out single and the Rangers went to the bullpen and brought out Don Stanhouse and he struck out Kaline to end the game.
Final score: Texas 8 Detroit 1.
