Phillies: Monthly Organizational Report - 9/1/1987
The minor league seasons are drwaing to a close and I will promote some guys as the big league club roster expands
AAA - Maine Guides (IL) Record: 49-78, Last place, 38.5 GB Power Ranking: 8/8
The Guides went 16-14 in August, which gives them 2 straight winning months. They have been eliminated from playoff contention. RF Jeff Stone (20/20), RP John McLarnan (20/20) and CL JMichael Jackson (30/70) was promoted to the majors.

The Clearwater Phillies had a great August going 19-9 and are currently in 2nd place in the North, 4 games back with 16 to play.

Spartanburg had another bad month going 13-15 and are now 13.5 games back with 16 games left. I promoted a few players from B&C Utica to gain a few weeks experience at a higher level. Luis Iglesias (20,20, who hit .304, with 28 HR, 92 RBI, 7 SB, .928 OPS and a 5.0 WAR, was promoted to A Clearwater.

B&C - Utica Blue Sox (NYPL-East) Record:52-28, 1st [I]Power Rankings:[/B] 1/12 - WON THE NYPL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Blue sox went 15-4 in August to finish the regular season at 52-28, won the East division by 7 games on Little Falls. The NYPL playoffs consist of just a best of 7 championship between the the two division winners. Utica defeater the Batavis Tigers 4-2, with LF Mark Cobb, .435, 3 HR, 5 RBI, .826 SLG, winning the Series MVP. Utica lead the league in Runs, AVG, OBP, Runs Against and Starters Era. Thier best batter this season was 1B Jimmy Barragan, who hit .361 with 30 2B, 15 HR, 56 RBIs, 51 BBs to 28 Ks, 1.046 OPS and 3.8 WAR. Their best pitcher on the season was SP Andy Carter, who went 7-4 with 3.79 ERA. He gave up 115 hirs, 10 HRs, 43 BB and 81 Ks in 107 IP. He has a FIP of 3.87 and a WAR of 2.3. Since their season was the first to end, I will promote Kevin Appier (25/70) and SP Andy Ashby (20/40) to Spartanburg.

The Bend Phillies went 13-13 in August and are now 6 back with 7 to go. Since only the division winners make the playoffs, the chances of the making the playoffs are slim. The pitching has struggled this year, ranking near the bottom in most categories.
