2055 IPA Pro Cup Series - Game 5
MACS TAKE PRO CUP LEAD 3-2 OVER RASCALS
It was another down-to-the-wire finish at White River Stadium with the Wynnamac Sundowners taking a tense tussle 3-2 to take a 3-2 lead over the Rascals in the best-of-seven Pro Cup Finals... one more win for Wynnnamac and they will capture their second Pro Cup trophy... Sundowner starter Sammy Hayes hurled seven excellent innings and left for a pinchhitter with a 2-0 lead, but his bullpen couldn't hold it... the Rascals battled back and tied it in the bottom of the 8th... the Macs got the winning run in the top of the 9th when 3B Jason Meeks (.190/2 RBI) hit a sac fly with the bases filled that scored LF Marv Washburn from third base... reliever Billy Skidmore (0-0/0.00/3 saves/7 G) closed it out in the last of the 9th to save it for winning pitcher James Duncan (1-0/3.72/1 save/6 G).
Long balls played an important part in the contest... Washburn (.286/15 RBI) homered in the second for the Sundowners first score... 1B Enos Benham (.338/10 RBI) made it 2-0 in the 8th with another roundtripper... it was the third home run for each of them in the postseason so far... White River came back and tied it in the bottom half of the frame on RBIs by SS Clifton Remington (.154/1 RBI) and pinchhitter Elton Bellfort (.238/7 RBI), but losing pitcher Butch Slattery (0-2/2.00/6 G) couldn't keep the Macs off the scoreboard in the 9th.
White River will have to regroup on the road in Wynnamac... the remainder of the Pro Cup Finals will take place at Granger Field in Wynnamac... game six will feature George Medworth (15-5/2.88) on the hill for the Sundowners and 36-year-old veteran Nicky Palmer (17-12/3.39) on the mound for the Rascals... the Macs beat Palmer 4-2 in the second game of the series.
