Minnesota 3B Steve Braun has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and will miss the next 7 months. The Twins have also lost SP Glenn Abbott who will be sidelined for the next 5 months because of shoulder inflammation.

In the top of the eighth, Broberg issued a leadoff walk and was replaced by Jim Shellenback. The Athletics loaded the bases with one out. Green grounded to short and the lead runner was forced out at home. Two away. Pinch hitter Willie Mays then got an infield single for an RBI. Cox then flew out to right to retire the side.
In the top of the ninth, Tolan got his 20th stolen base of the season. Rudi then brought him home with a single. With a runner on first and two out, Steve Lawson took the mound for the Rangers and he got the final out of the frame.
Hunter completed the game having allowed just 1 hit.
