The Twins have lost yet another player to injury. RF Ralph Garr has a torn thumb ligament and will be out for one week.

Cubs 2B Ron Hunt also has a torn thumb ligament. He is expected to miss 3 weeks.

The Houston Astros have officially been eliminated from the post season.

In the top of the second, Hand walked the first three batters of the innning. Bases loaded. Nobody out. Green was the third hitter to walk giving him 50 bases on balls for the season. Meoli lined out to first. One away. Garrett lined out to third. Two away. Tolan then flied out to right to retire the side.

Bando led off the top of the third with a home run.

McLain had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Oakland 1 Texas 0.

In the bottom of the fifth, McLain struck out Maddox for his 50th K of the season.

With two out in the bottom of the sixth, Biittner singled to break up the no-hitter.

After six: Oakland 1 Texas 0.

In the top of the seventh with a runner on first and one out, Hand left the game with an elbow injury and was replaced by Horacio Pina. Jackson got an RBI single.

Burroughs led off the bottom of the seventh with a single for his 150th hit of the season. The Rangers went on to load the bases with one out. Suarez flew out to left. Two down. Billings then flew out to left as well to end the inning.

Tenace hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth. It was the Athletics 10th hit of the game.

Harrah hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth. The Rangers then put two men on base but pinch hitter Tom Grieve hit into the game ending 4-6-3.

Final score: Oakland 3 Texas 1.
