Minor League FAs:
The big news is the trade of
Samuel. I really wasn't thrilled about trading him but with the owner slashing the payroll, I needed to shed salary. I have about 1.5M for extensions but none for FA and I would like to extend some players but
Schmidt is a free agent after this year and I most likely will need to keep him. While he had a good offensive year,
Samuel was not great at 2B and I didn't want to shift him to the outfield. I shopped him around and Toronto offered
Fielder. He looked to be an average hitter with a the potential of power, no speed (.250 6 HR 21 RBI, 39/20 K/BB) and terrible defensive.
Wells average over a strikeout an inning at AAA and needs to work on control.
Blair pitched at 4 levels last year and in 66 IP walked 28, struck out 63, allowed 70 hits including 7 HRs. The other 2 show promise with control and are basically lottery tickets.
