The next day, my family and Beth headed back to Texas while the team went back to Charleston.
Beth and I never talked about....it...again.
But it still hung in the air over us.
Moms always know, somehow.
"Is everything alright?" she asked me.
"Yeah, everything is okay. Just hated that ya'll came all the way out here to see me lose."
Which was true.
But not the whole truth.
I gave everyone, but Dad, a kiss goodbye.
Beth held me hand an extra second long.
Her eyes said the whole story.
She was afraid.
That we were over.
As I turned to leave, something in my head told me....
If you are so smart, how are you letting the best girl in your life just drift away?
I didn't look back.
I had a team to pitch for.
