The Washington Capitals (14-10-1) come to the Bell Center to play the Montreal Canadiens (12-13-1). Washington beat Montreal in their 1st meeting this season 4-2 in Washington. Montreal will be without their top defenseman in Steven Thornton and top scoring forward Patrick Atkins.

Montreal takes just 0:24 to take a 1-0 as C Dean Casey gets his 7th of the year. Casey deflects LD Dominick Heatherington's point shot from inside the slot while RD Colton Knoll gets his 1st career NHL point. Washington takes the steam out of the Habs start scoring on their 1st shot. C Jason Moser goes backhand on a breakaway at 9:56 beating G Bill Wolfenbarger. Montreal gets that lead back and make it 2-1 at 13:14 on RW Zach Broderick's 2nd goal of the year. C Jeff Pilbeam's shot hits Broderick in the slot for the goal. The Capitals tie the score 2-2 at 4:26 when C Jason Moser capitalizes on his own rebound for his 2nd of the night, 11th of the year. The 2nd periods ends with the shots 16-9 for Montreal.

Washington goes up 3-2 on the PP as C Gavril Karlin tips a shot in from the slot for his 11th goal of the season at 4:36. Montreal loses another player to injury as LW Eric Brenner leaves that game at 7 minutes into the 3rd period. Montreal rookie RD Colton Knoll is trying to make his presence known as he gets into a fight with just over 8 minutes left in the game. We will see if it inspires Montreal who are now outshooting Washington 25-14. Time runs out on Montreal even though they outshoot Washington 33-17 in the game.

Washington Capitals C Gavril Karlin reached 250 career points in the NHL during the game.
