In the top of the first, the Athletics scored 2 on a Rudi two-bagger.
In the bottom of the first, Burroughs was thrown out trying to score from second on a Grieve single.
In the bottom of the second, Biittner extended his hits streak to 11 games with a run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Suarez grounded to short but Campaneris booted it to allow the tying run to score. Nelson the got a 2-RBI single to give the Rangers the lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, a Dent groundout brought Grieve home.
In the top of the sixth, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out without getting a hit. Campaneris flew out to right and then Burroughs threw Rudi out at home for a double play.
After six: Texas 5 Oakland 2.
In the top of the seventh, Hendrick hit a 2-run homer.
Hand issued a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth and was replaced by Mike Garman. Back to back errors loaded the bases with nobody out. White then tied the game with a sacrifice fly as the Rangers committed their third error of the inning allowing the go-ahead run to score as well.
Biittner led off the bottom of the eighth with a single for the Rangers 10th hit of the game and Rollie Fingers replaced Holtzman and kept Biittner from advancing past first.
Rudi hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
Final score: Oakland 7 Texas 5.
