League news
Chapman Takes This Week's Trophy: At the age of 31, Jim Chapman might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Tamarac second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .421 batting average. For his efforts Chapman collected the Continentall League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 8 hits in 19 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 6 games.
National League Selects Best Performer: 25-year-old Nate Mazur made a few Emmaus headlines during this past week as the rookie first baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and National League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 10 hits in 26 at-bats to put up a .385 average. Mazur collected 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 7 runs.

More Woes For Crows Kyle Stackhouse: The Clayton Crows will have to do without right fielder Kyle Stackhouse even longer than expected. Team doctors say that Stackhouse's recovery from an intercostal strain has not gone well and more time will be needed to treat it successfully. The Crows trainer indicated it would be at least 6 days before they would consider activating Stackhouse.
This season Stackhouse has hit at a .270 clip with 5 RBIs, 2 home runs and 6 runs scored. He has played in 9 games.
Season-Ending Injury for Long: "Not what I wanted to hear," said East Winslow's Chris Long to reporters this afternoon, as he revealed that the injury he sustained on 04/17/2157 would force him to miss the rest of the season. "The doctor made it clear," Long said. "There's no chance for me -- none at all -- to come back this year. That's the last thing I wanted to hear." Long has been out of action since he suffered shoulder inflammation.
To this point in the season he has had 1 save. Long has made 5 relief appearances, tossed 9 innings and struck out 7 with a record of no wins and no losses.
Edwards Out of Commission 4-5 Months: The Oakdale Park Ravens have made it official: Pat Edwards is headed to the disabled list. The 28-year-old reliever has been out since 04/20/2157 with shoulder inflammation. He is expected to miss 4-5 months.
For the season Edwards has made 9 relief appearances, recorded no saves and compiled a 1-1 won-lost mark and a 1.13 ERA. In pitching 8 innings, he has totaled 9 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Bernstein Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits: The Bonhomme Raiders tripped up the Emmaus Pelicans 9-1 today. The Raiders were led by Troy Bernstein, their 30-year-old third baseman. Continental League's #1 Player Named: At the age of 30, Ritchie DeRoy might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Oakdale Park right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .500 batting average. For his efforts DeRoy collected the Continentall League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 8 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs last week in 5 games.
For the season DeRoy is hitting .400, batted in 5 runs with 2 home runs and 4 runs scored.
National League's Star of the Week Chosen: 27-year-old Matt Lovill sent shock waves through Elyrian Baseball League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the National League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Lovill made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .524 average, 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBI.
Where the Elyria Continentals third baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Lovill certainly made his mark last week.
So far this season, Lovill has recorded a .319 batting average with 22 hits, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, 9 runs scored and a .373 OBP.
Trinidad City Loses Jones for Season: After several days of waiting for test results, bad news was delivered to Marc Jones today. The Trinidad City reliever will be out the rest of the year due to bone chips in his elbow he suffered on 04/20/2157.
News Gets Worse for Soulard, Seller: The day has come for Jay Seller to call it a career. The Soulard reliever, because of a torn labrum, has been out of action for a while. Now, he has decided to retire from baseball. He made it official in a brief appearance to reporters. "I was told I've got an outside shot at playing again," he said. "But I've decided to pursue other options at this time." Best of luck to Seller. The team will surely miss him.
