Chapter 2: The First Week
APRIL 7, 2017
Jonathan would have liked to say that he won on his first Opening Day.
He did not.
The Brewers could only muster one run against Jon Gray and the Rockies, falling 3-1 in front of their fans.
On the other hand, Tim Lincecum signed his contract.
Jonathan was beginning to gain the name "Trademaster" for his wheeling and dealing. About a week into his job, he had already traded for Stephen Strasburg, Christian Yelich, Sonny Gray, Francisco Cervelli, and Cody Bellinger, and almost all of them had most if not all of their contracts paid for by the other team.
And he had still hung on to Lewis Brinson.
Not only that, Tim Lincecum was a productive member of the rotation, slotting in nicely behind Strasburg as a #2.
But the most interesting of the bunch was his Matt Andriese trade tree.
He traded 21-year-old Phil Pickford for Andriese, who was flipped to Atlanta for Julio Teheran. Teheran went to the Orioles for Kevin Gausman. Gausman and CF prospect Corey Ray to the Astros for Lance McCullers Jr. Finally, McCullers Jr. went to Toronto for Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, and Kevin Pillar.
He paid none of their salaries.
And the Crew were 4-2.
