The final weekend of the season is upon us. Fort Worth has long clinched and now awaits who they will face in the Southern League Championship Series. Mobile clinched the first wildcard spot a few days back. Meanwhile, Alexandria and Birmingham are deadlocked with 3 games left to play. Both have identical 84-67 records. Both teams are finishing their seasons on the road. Alexandria in in Texarkana against the Grasshoppers. Birmingham in Shreveport against the Captains. I'm giving the Aces the edge here, as Texarkana has had a rough go of it this season. Shreveport was in contention for a wildcard for much of the season before fading over the last month and half. In the early days of the league, Birmingham and Alexandria forged a strong dislike for each other. Birmingham would win 4 rings in 5 years.

Fort Worth will be making their 3rd straight appearance in the championship series. Question now is, will they end up facing the Mobile Hustlers for the 3rd straight season.

The Triple Crown is also on the line with 3 games remaining. Ken Griffey Jr. (FW) is hitting .361, just 2 better than Greg Luzinski(BIR) .359. Junior has 44 home runs, 2 more than Tom Brunansky's(BR) 42. He has 128 RBI, 7 more than Tom Brunansky 119.
