PHILLIES FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONS
In the end they left little to no doubt. The Philadelphia Phillies are the first champions of the baseball world after they won their pennant by 14 games and swept to the title in four games.
Celebrations spilled over as the train brought the team back from Boston with a championship. The mayor couldnt be more proud as the club will enjoy an autumn of adolation.
The MVP of the series win against the Americans was pitcher Bill Sowders who won two games including the opener and the clincher. On the offensive end Matty Alou drove in five runs in the series including three big ones in the opening game.
"To be the first is something special, even more special is to show that the National League is the better and stronger league." said happy team owner Pete Cox.
