In the bottom of the second, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. A 2-run single by Nelson put the Rangers on the board.
In the top of the third, Rivers knocked one in with a triple.

Fanzone led off the top of the seventh with a game-tying home run.
Messersmith sent Mangual down on strikes to lead off the bottom of the seventh for his 40th K of the season.
In the top of the eighth, a two out single by McBride brought Mike Garman on to pitch for the Rangers. Garman struck out Oliver to retire the side.
Nelson led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and Tom Murphy replaced Messersmith on the mound for the Angels. After a sacrifice bunt by Maddox, Nelson swiped third for his 10th stolen base of the season. But was stranded there as neither Harrah nor Burroughs could bring him home.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Bobby Tolan hit a pinch hit home run to give the Angels the lead. It was the Angels 10th hit of the game.
The Rangers then went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
