Dan Kerwin, 1903
Dan Kerwin was an outfielder whose minor league career began in 1894. He played for most of 1903 with Louisville in the American Association, but late in the season he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds. On September 27th of that year, the last day of the season, he started in left field for the Reds in both games of a doubleheader with Brooklyn in Cincinnati. Kerwin had three singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch in six plate appearances in the first game. In the second game, shortened to five innings, he had a double and a walk in three plate appearances. Kerwin also played in post-season games between the Reds and the Browns and between the Reds and the Cleveland Naps. In the Ohio Championship series with Cleveland, Kerwin had just two singles and a double in 29 at-bats. He was back in Louisville in 1904, but after the end of the season it was reported in the Chicago Tribune (see below) that he would try out for the White Sox in 1905. Evidently, it didn't work out; he played for Louisville in 1905, 1906, and part of 1907, and continued his minor league career through 1913. His career, regular-season, major league batting average was .667, 4 hits in 6 at-bats.
