I am getting close to when I can return to the line-up. I have stepped up my recovery work outs and have been on the practice field throwing balls and running to get my fitness up. Hopefully the trainers will allow me to start swinging a bat again tomorrow as I get ready to rejoin the lads in 3 days time.
The lads themselves are all down in Bossier City to face the Rhinos. We are on a 5 game losing streak and need to find a way to break it.
The manager went with the following line-up today.
3B Angelo Mendoza
2B Casey McCauley
SS Steve Bielecki
DH Chris LaBuff
LF Cooper Houghton
CF Chris Severson
1B Chris Klika
RF Tanner Rice
Catcher Tomas Ayala
On the mound for us today was Donte Conston. This will be Constons first start for us as we re-shuffle the pitching rotation following promotions.
The first 3 innings were quiet for both sides but the Rhinos finally got the game going in the fourth. A single from Salinas, a double from Apple and an error by us against Kranz saw both Salinas and Apple cross the plate to give the Rhinos a 2-0 lead.
We managed to get the game all tied up in the top of the fifth as Mendoza made base with a single before McCauley blasted one 367 feet for a 2 run homer.
The bottom of the sixth saw the Rhinos re-take the lead as Daniels was first man up and scored a solo homer.
We managed to keep the game alive in the top of the eighth as a single from LaBuff and a triple from Severson saw LaBuff home.
The game then went quiet again as the pitchers got back on top sending it into extras. Both teams were starting to run a little short of rested relievers as the game went to the thirteenth. The top of the thirteenth saw Severson make base for a walk. Klika then gave up a sac bunt to get him to second. Manriquez then had a ground out moving Severson to third. Becerra then hit a single to left field that bought Severson home to give us the lead 4-3.
Gene Pickup was going into his third inning of relief pitching as we went into the bottom of the thirteenth. He managed to keep it tight giving up only a single and a walk for the 3 outs needed to bring home the win for us 4-3.
We are now 15-26 and have broken our losing streak. Hopefully we can keep winning tomorrow.
We had some bad news as Tanner Rice picked up an injury during the game but the docs don't think it will be to bad and he will remain with the side as they have listed him DTD with back stiffness.
The lads will face the Rhinos again tomorrow while I hopefully get back to swinging a bat, even if just for practice.
