DMB user interested in OOTP - questions
Hello. I currently use DMB to sim various games, but I suspect I do things a bit differently than others for my baseball enjoyment.
I have an All Time Team Greats league disk that I created in DMB and mainly use this to play games. Basically this league contains teams and then players who had their single best season placed on those teams. Such as for the Dodgers I have Roy Campanella from 1953 on the Dodgers team since I chose that as his best year. Each team has likewise been filled out with players who had their best single year on that team and they only exist on that team with only that year.
This league took an enormous amount of time to create and maintain over the years as I had to create & rate each player myself from scratch.
I enjoy playing games of "the best Dodgers" versus "the best Giants", etc. and I do not do anything with contracts, minor leagues, signing players, general manager activities, etc. as I unfortunately just don't have the time, plus that's not a style of play I think I would enjoy. This is a 'single season' type league and the rosters don't change unless a new player from today has a great year and I place him on his appropriate team.
I normally either sim an entire season and then when done, I simply select "Restart Season" to start over. Or I individual play ad-hoc style exhibition games, where I manage a team and play a computer controlled team for some quick and easy fun.
I have to admit I've not considered OOTP before because DMB offers exactly what I enjoy doing, but I've always heard good things about OOTP and with the new 3D modeling, I thought I'd inquire about OOTP and ask if I can do something similar with the below questions.
- In OOTP, can you easily create your own league, divisions, and teams from scratch?
- Can I create my own schedule?
- I see OOTP reference a 'player database', which would seem very appealing to me to avoid massive work to create my own players. Can you simply grab 1953-Roy Campanella and place him on the Dodgers team? And do the same for a great many other individual players to fill out each team? (Basically I want to use the internal OOTP player database to build the rosters for my All Time Team Greats league by choosing which player/year goes on each team.
- Can you play a single season league only? And then when finished, simply restart that season/league to play again? (I wouldn't want minor league players coming up, existing players to advance to a new year or anything like that. I know that's different than what probably most folks here enjoy doing, but once I build the league/teams with the players/years I want, I don't want those rosters to change.)
- Can you have the computer sim the entire season? Can you tell it to sim just 1 week of games and then jump in and manage a team yourself for several games?
Thank you very much for any information you can provide.
