There is an option when creating a historical league or a custom league that allows single season play only and not career play.
I have replayed a few of my favourite historical seasons, i turn off financials and all that other management stuff and just play or sim the games out.
As another poster said, it is best to save your intial league as a template,
because I do not think there is an option to restart a league by simply reverting all stats, team records etc back to zero.
