2001-02 Season Preview: Kangaroo Conference
Across the ditch now.
No 100 win teams here as the Australians look set to be a tighter affair than their kiwi counterparts. In a surprise, the top three projected teams are all out of the Sydney/Melbourne bubble that was expected to dominate Australian baseball.
In fact, all the New South Wales teams are projected to fall under .500 while Geelong is the only Victoria team to be positioned in a playoff spot with a 85-83 record.
Instead, it's expected that the Canberra Power and Queensland Firebirds will be in the driving seat. The Power may have taken their name a bit too literally and have recruited the most aggressive hitting lineup in the competition.
One player eager to live a mark will be Zachariah Roneberg from the Adelaide Zips. He's 38 years old but as good as he's ever been. He's not going to get many chances to get his hands on a championship so believe us, he'll be gunning it for it this season.
