11/11/1988 - End of Year GM Report
It was another tough year for the Phillies as we finished 63-99, which was tied for last in the division and tied for the 5th worst in the majors. We scored 599 runs and allowed 796. A staggering differnce of -197. Our final Power Ranking was 23rd. This was a major disappointment as I expected to imporve towards 80 wins, but the season started off rough when we lost Von Hayes for season in the first week. We had some ups and downs and some of our younger players made some strides, whihc gives me hope for next year.
Here is a position by position overview of the players who played for the Phils this season:
Catchers- Darren Daulton (Age: 27) - 399 AB, .208, 12 HR, 43 RBI, 4 SB, 14.7 BB%, 17.3 K%, .322 OBP, .668 OPS, .306 wOBA, 100 wRC+, 2.3 WAR, 0.8 ZR, 38.7 CS%
- Tom Prince (24) - 125 AB, .224, 3 HR, 15 RBI, .300 OBP, 8.6 BB%, 15.7 K%,.304 wOBA, .668 OPS, 98 wRC+, 0.8 WAR, 0.5 ZR, 33.3 CS%
- Lance Parrish - 102 AB, .260, 4 HR, 16 RBI, 3.9 BB%, 25.5 K%, .294 OBP, .721 OPS, .321 wOBA, 110 wRC+, 0.7 WAR, 0.5 ZR, 34.8 CS% Traded in May
- Ronald Nelson (24) - 3 for 14, .214, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 5 K, 0.2 WAR, 0.5 ZR, 50% CS
While, the counting stats were the same, Daulton cut his K% by 5% and improve his walk rate by 3 %. He will be the starter next year with Nelson, and [b}Prince[/b] fighting for the backup spot. I will look to add some FAs or some of the guys form my upper minors into the mix as well.
