that owner is a nub, clearly. profit is what he cares about and very little about winning... rather just a guise of trying with minimal resources alotted.
every single mlb team can afford ~150M payroll or more.. they are absolutely lying, otherwise.
in some cases this might require good attendance and would need to ramp up with continued success. they might make a bit less (doubt it) per year if they did it and that is the real obstacle for a significant poritons of ownership.
accounting is the psuedo-science of hiding income.
e.g. you buy an asset, you expense the cost of that asset which reduces your tax obligation that year... then over it's life you depreciate it and save on those tax dollars a second time. if you can't see the obvious abuse you can do with this generally accepted accounting principle (gaap), you aren't trying too hard.
the inmates were allowed to write or aid in the writing of the rules that govern them... should work out fine, right? good god-fearing people and all.... <sigh>
the point is they have the money to not play in a sespool nor extort money from local municipalities to construct them a new stadium. baseball is a fun game sorrounded by excrement.
