I can't respond about being fired. I don't play challenge mode and turn on the "do not fire" box for every new league I start. I don't want to be in the position you describe and find myself out of a job.
My fun playing OOTP comes from watching the results of interacting with one franchise and the successes and failures of my decisions. Some of which may take years to occur. I don't want to be fired by the AI ever.
