This isn't really meant as an answer to the original question, but on the subject of trades, I find that my assistant G.M.'s opinion can cause me to think through (and be more creative about) my trade offers. Now do I often ignore him and go ahead with a trade that he can't quite get the point of? Absolutely! And obviously when he says something like "great trade, boss" I know the other team isn't going to even come close to agreeing. But if I listen to him just a bit, often I find it nudges me towards asking for just a bit more (more money, a borderline prospect, etc.) and often I end up with a better (or possibly better) trade in the process. (And when he says, this could be okay as it stands but I'd ask for a bit more, maybe a prospect- or however the wording goes- and the other team is still saying yes, I know I've probably gotten about as good a deal as I can.) So, there's maybe one good thing (for me, at least) about having an assistant G.M.
