i haven't tried anything like this since last years beta testing. but my understanding is once you mess with the historical structure of the game, you change it to a fictional league and weird things begin (or can begin) to happen. And after whatever current year you are in, after the post-season, the game will attempt to restore it's original set-up and any teams self created with be vanquished and their players set-out to FA pasture.
now, i am not saying it's not possible, but i am thinking it would need to be originally set-up as a fictional league and then you can move things around as you please. However, players will go into FA instead of actual teams ( instead historical teams if you don't have a draft) if you chose to use historical players. (unless you want to undertake the gargantuan task of importing historical players manually then things become more possible.)
hope someone else has a better idea, but from what i've seen, it will be difficult (at best) to make it work correctly in an historical setting.
