Preseason
January 26th, 2021: Today marks the start of the preseason, and my owner Tim Kuchera gave us a budget boost from $104,000,000 to $110,000,000. That gives us the 27th highest budget.
I ended up techincally re-signing Cam Bedrosian, who ended up getting non-tendered by the Cubs. He'll make $3,000,000 for three years, the final a team option. Him and Walker Buhler are headed to the DL since the preseason allows the ability to place players on the Disabled List.
The Rays opened the pocketbooks and signed 2B Brian Dozier to a 4-year, $52,800,000 contract. It's a bargain, however, for someone of his caliber.
February 3rd, 2021: The Tigers signed 1B Yonder Alonso toa 1-year, $9,200,000 contract.
February 4th, 2021: I needed a lefty for the pen, so I traded for the Mets' Matt Purke. I had to give up RHP Ian Gardeck, LHP Luke Heimlich, and RHP Chris Joyce, but it's definitely worth it. I was going to lose Gardeck to waivers anyways, and the other two prospects aren't anything special. Purke really broke out last year, and is rated as a 3* with solid stamina for a reliever, and three plus pitches.
February 5th, 2021: It was time for a blockbuster, and I acquired 2B Scott Kingery from the Phillies for former #2 overall pick 2B Tyler Callihan and RHP Hunter Harvey. Callihan doesn't look nearly as good as he did in the past, and Harvey, although talented, is something I was willing to part with.
The 26-year-old Kingery is a 3.5* with solid speed, amazing defense at second, and a scary bat. Last year he hit .272/.319/.418 with 17 homers and 56 RBI's for the Phils. This weakens them and strengthens me at the same time.
February 6th, 2021: The Mets keep adding to their stacked rotation, grabbing RHP Michael Wacha on a 5-year, $117,400,000 deal.
February 11th, 2021: I claimed LHP Corbin Clouse off waivers and added him to the big league roster. He's got very little control, but his stuff is insane and he's a groundball specialist, and he gives us another lefty option, but one with three options left.
Stay tuned for the start of Spring Training! It's almost time for Marlins baseball again!
