Spring Training
February 24th, 2022: Today marks the start of Spring Training, and I brorught up a bunch of minor leguers to fill the expanded 60 man roster. The first set of preseason predictions are out, and they have the Marlins finishing 86-76 in a three way tie with Philadelphia and St. Louis for the two wild card spots. I'm also projected to have the best ERA and most steals in the NL. Jordan Montgomery is a top player, 11-6 with a 3.03 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 27 starts.
February 27th, 2022: SS Jeremy Arocho fractured his thumb, and will miss 3-4 weeks. I sent him down to AAA to rehab, just in case he faced any setbacks.
March 6th, 2022: The Twins lost CL Trevor Hildenberger for the season with a torn unlar collateral ligament. There are a lot of quality relievers left on the market that could be a suitable replacement.
March 15th, 2022: The Cubs signed RHP Carter Capps to a 1-year, $1,920,000 contract. He had a down year with Seattle, but should be a solid middle reliever.
March 20th, 2022: The Cubs extended SP Kyle Hendricks to a 4-year, %15,400,000 per year contract. Now 32, the control specialist is a career 75-68 with a 3.64 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 1,040 strikeouts in 1,279.1 innings.
March 28th, 2022: The Red Sox lost lefty Bobby Poyner for the rest of the year with a torn rotator cuff.
We ended up finishing the spring 12-16, but those numbers are worth nothing. The good news is we stayed healthy.
While getting the roster ready, I traded LHP Aaron Loup to the Rangers for C Jake Taylor. The 23-year-old Taylor was a 4th round selection last year, and has a decent bat. He can play a little of 3B and LF as well, so he's a nice depth piece.
March 30th, 2022: On Opening Day Eve, the Red Sox signed CL Roberto Osuna to a 1-year, $5,600,000 contract. The 27-year-old has 161 career saves.
I also used today to set my Opening Day roster. It is as follows:
SP Walker Buehler (3.5/3.5)
SP Tyler Mahle (3.5/4)
SP Jordan Montgomery (3.5/3.5)
