Leafs on the board first late in the opening period. That goal holds up until the early moments of the third, when

Habs the lead, and they would keep it tell the end. 2-1

Toronto on the board early in the first period of game two, but
Jim Pappin responds a few minutes later.
Montreal grabs the lead with 2nd period goals from
Bob Nevin and
Dickie Moore, and shut the game down in the third with a goal from
Murray Oliver. 4-1

On home ice, the
Leafs fall behind after a
George Armstrong goal. That deficit widens to two when
Claude Provost scores early in the third. A late
JP Parise goal isn’t enough, and the
Habs win it 2-1. They have a strangle hold on the series. The
Leafs refuse to go down without a fight though, and jump out to a 3-0 lead after scoring three times in 4 minutes early in game four. Those few minutes matched their offensive output of the entirety of the series so far.
Montreal responds.
Carl Brewer gets kicked out of the game for an illegal check. This results in a 5 min PP for the
Habs and they get 2 goals on that man advantage.
Barclay Plager then tied the game late in the 2nd. The game ends up needing overtime. In the extra frame,
Bobby Hull is the hero that extends the series, scoring his 6th goal. 4-3
