- 7/11: FLA 9 MIL 8 (12) Both score 1 in the 9th and 10th McDowell 15th wins it in the 12th. Geoff Wimer 4-5 2 HR 2 BB 4 R (ties team record) 3 RBI Nishida 3-5 2B HR RBI
- 7/12 MIL 11 FLA 1 Dunham 4.1 IP 14 H 9 ER Braedon Belmore 4-4 3 2B 3 RBI
- Dunham drops to 1-9 7.87 and is optioned back to Alamogordo after the game. Going to recall reliever Ben Herman from Alamogordo and put him into the rotation for a few turns. His changeup is bad at best as a 3rd pitch but it's only going to improve with innings and as a starter he'll have to use it.
- Detroit shortstop Naoaki Fuchigami went 5-5 in a 5-2 win. Jace Camp (SF) fanned 12 in a 2 hit 12-0 CG shutout.
- Joe Linn tossed another solid 7 innings in a no decision. 6 K's 0 BB 6 H and 2 runs. He's 5-0 2.95 and in 42.2 innings he's struck out 34 and walked just 4.
- 7/13: DEN 3 FLA 2 Mike Lochirco CG 5 H 4 K 3 BB (11-5 4.85)
- Reliever Arturo Mercado won the 2004 Goose Gossage award. Given annually to the games best middle reliever. I mention that because San Antonio to Alaska today in return for OF Jian-Zhang Ta. Ta is one of the games premier defenders as well as one of the leagues fastest players. Mercado is on the DL, having gone down with an elbow issue 3 weeks ago and it still out for another 3 weeks. Alaska is 51-43 and 4 games back of Vegas in the NL West. Their pen is ranked 3rd overall and their offense is a dismal 11th in avg and 8th in runs scored. Odd trade of what looks like a player
- 7/14 DEN 12 FLA 1 Alward 8.1 IP 13 K 1 ER (6-7 3.72) Medina 4.1 IP 11 H 10 ER
- 7/15 DEN 9 FLA 2 Lorenzana 6 IP 10 H 7 ER (1-8 5.34) Nishida 4-4 2B HR 2 RBI
- Prospect Jeremy Crimi went 5-7 with a league record 5 doubles in a 10-8 Alamogordo win. In 20 games since his call up he's hit .397/.453/.662 over 68 at bats
- Phoenix SP Whitney Gilmour went down yesterday with a ruptured UCL. The 22 year old will miss at least the next 11 months.
- 24 year old Ismael Ybarra went down 6 innings into the season with elbow chips. He's ready to be activated off the 60 day, so he's headed out for a rehab
- Outfielder Rafael Duenas is taking on a dual role. He's going to provide an extra arm at the same time he's a bat off the bench. He actually pitched in college and he has stuff. He threw north of 700 minor league innings but could never find the command to take on a legitimate role.
- 7/16 FLA 6 LV 4 Baldwin 5 IP 7 H 3 K 3 BB 2 ER
- 7/17 FLA 10 LV 9 (10) Barranco 4-5 3B 3 RBI Fujimoto 3-4 grand slam 4 RBI (1st career ABA HR)
AL POTW- Steve Moden (PHX) 12-27 6 HR 16 RBI (.282-26-74)
NL POTW- Amari Tutson (JAX) 12-23 3 HR 11 RBI (.302-24-61)
This Week: 1 vs Las Vegas Off Day 3 @ Detroit 2 vs Chicago
This Week: San Antonio closer and 5 time all-star Jeremy Schellhammer is just getting warmed up this season having just 4 saves to date. He's a 2 time Rivera Award winner and a 2004 3rd place finisher for the Koufax award. He is coming off a 2 month DL stint. I mention this because the Broncos today announced a 2 year 7.2 million dollar extension to make him the leagues highest paid closer. 40 and 51 with 238 Saves which is 4th all time and 3rd all-time among active players and a career 2.77 ERA he's struck out 828 over 513.1 career innings.
