Newcastle, Seeks Return to Modern ABL

Baseball Australia announced that the Hunter Region has submitted a bid to receive a license for the modern ABL. Newcastle, previously the host of the Hunter Eagles, has submitted and presented a bid to Baseball Australia and the ABL. The bid includes a renovated stadium and partnerships with the Hunter and Central Coast regions to improve youth baseball resources. The ownership group includes that of the Newcastle Jets and Knights.
ABL CEO and Commissioner also announced that the Sydney and Melbourne licenses have been granted pending approval from the board of Baseball Australia. These licenses to operate have been sold for a cash infusion and commitment to youth baseball in the regions. It has been said that these cities may have a 4 year exclusivity for their metro region.
Newcastle may not be the last of the former ABL sites to bid, with Gold Coast expected to have their presentation at the ABL office tomorrow.
