TARPONS, HASTINGS AGREE TO TWO YEAR DEAL
1B Chris Hastings has signed a 2 year deal with the Florida Tarpons and will join their team in Miami later today. In 728 games over 6 ABA seasons, he's hit .270/.339/.485 with 142 HR and 433 RBI. He's won a gold glove and been named an all-star. He was coming off a .280-31-97 year in 2003 before leaving for the NPBL for 2003, 2004 and was let go just 10 days ago.
“This is the ultimate low-risk high reward move,” GM Gehrig Schilling remarked at the press conference. A quality guy in and out of the clubhouse and a legitimate middle of the order bat Chris is also an above average 3B where we think he'll get some at-bats and we fully expect him to be part of the 2006 Tarpon club”.
The deal was for 2 years and 2 million total. Hastings has a solid resume in every way, and will provide a very good veteran presence and a legitimate middle of the order bat.
