August 11th-August 17th

August 11th, 2023: We opened the series in Atlanta with Nick Neidert (1-4, 6.07 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) taking on Joey Wentz (8-8, 4.25 ERA, 1.35 WHIP). Neidert's WHIP continues to impress/shock/not make sense, but I'm hoping that means his ERA will continue to drop. That's not quite what happened, as we lost a slugfest 14-9.

Neidert allowed 7 off 7 hits in 2 innings with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Shoehi Ohtani pitched out of the pen, allowing a hit and 5 runs with 4 walks in 0.2 innings pitched. I don't quite know why he completely frogot how to pitch. Koda Glover allowed 2 runs in the final 2 innings off 3 hits and a walk.

Ryan Mountcastle was 1-for-4 with a 2 run homer. Adam Haseley was 2-for-5 with a run scored, RBI, walk, and double. Lewis Brinson was 2-for-5 with a triple, run scored, and 2 RBI's. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a walk, run scored, and 2 RBI's. Scott Kingery was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

August 12th, 2023: We looked to bounce back with Walker Buehler (9-5, 3.77 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) facing Mike Soroka (9-6, 2.99 ERA, 0.95 WHIP). We've had Soroka's number this year, as he's 0-2 with a 8.31 ERA against us. We got three in the first, but that's all we'd get. Luckily, it was enough for the 3-2 win.

Buehler left with a mild hamstring strain, but will be ready for his next start. He went 2.2 innings with 3 hits, a run, walk, and strikeout. Luiz Gohara got the win, 2.1 innings with 2 hits, a run, and 2 strikeouts. Corbin Clouse and Ben Popkin got holds, and Joe Jimenez got a save.

Shoehi Ohtan was 1-for-4 wtih a 2 run homer. Jose Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a double. Brendan Rodgers was 0-for-2 with a walk and got an RBI from a sac fly.

August 13th, 2023: Max Povse suffered a rehab setback, and will miss another week.

The Angels will be without 26-year-old rookie Fitz Stadler for the year with shoulder inflammation. The 2019 15th Rounder was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 7 relief appearences.

We looked to win the series with Jake Florence (8-9, 4.18 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) facing Sean Wymer (4-4, 2.69 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). Both pitchers have lost to the opposing team, although I'm pretty sure Florence's was when he was a Sox pitcher, since his ERA against Atlanta is 17.18. He looked much better today, and led us to a 2-1 win to take the series.

He went just 5.2 innings with 2 hits, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts, but Florence lowered his Marlin ERA to 1.55 (the start was with the South Siders). Phil Maton, Ben Popkin, and Joe Jimenez got holds and Yasukazu Shiotani earned the save. Jimenez allowed 2 hits and an unearned run in the 8th, while also recording a strikeout.

Nick Gordon was 3-for-4 with a triple, 2 doubles, and run scored. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Scott Kingery was 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk, and steal. Jose Ramirez was 1-for-4 with an RBi double.

The Rangers SS Chris Seise was 5-for-5 in a 15-3 win over the Brewers.

Now 69-48, we own just a 3 game lead over the Mets, and head to Minnesota for three with the 56-61 Twins. We'd see Jeremy Hyneck (5-11, 5.60 ERA), Jose Berrios (8-5, 3.47 ERA), and Tyler J. Watson (2-3, 4.93 ERA).

August 14th, 2023: The Mariners will be without RHP Tony Zych for the rest of the year with a torn ulnar collateral ligament, and his 2024 participation is in question. The 33-year-old had an excellent 1.70 ERA in 58.1 innings with 63 strikeouts.

We remain 2nd in the Power Rankins behind just San Diego. The Mets have jetted up to 5th.

We've had trouble with the Twins in the past, so I'd expect this to be a tough road series. Corbin Burnes (8-6, 4.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) got the ball against Jeremy Hyneck (5-11, 5.60 ERA, 1.64 WHIP). Nick Gordon got to return to his former home stadium. The Twins got the best of us in the opener, winning 5-3.

Burnes left with a blister, but luckily it wont cost him a start. He allowed 3 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 4 strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Edward Cabrera allowed an unearned run in 2 innings with 2 hits and 3 strikeouts. Phil Maton allowed a hit and run in 1.2 innings with 3 stirkeouts.

Ryan Mountcastle was 2-for-4 with a two run homer and RBI double. Thomas Dillard dwas 2-for-4. Gordon was 1-for-3 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and double. Jose Ramirez walked twice and stole his 11th base.

August 15th, 2023: The Rays will be without RHP Jesus Liranzo for the year with a stretched elbow ligament. He's 5-3 with 3 saves and a 6.13 ERA in 39.2 pen innings.

A.J. Puckett (6-4, 4.45 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) got to pitch against his former team and teammate Jose Berrios (8-5, 3.47 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). Ramirez really struggles with Berrios, a career 7-for-43 against the Minnesota ace. Our 9th inning rally came up short and we fell 5-4. The Twins really have our number...

Puck allowed 5 in 5 with 6 hits and 2 strikeouts. The rest of the pen allowed 4 hits in 3 innings with 3 strikeouts.

Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a homer. Ramirez looked good, 2-for-4. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Nick Gordon was 1-for-3 with a solo homer.

August 16th, 2023: Jameson Taillon is off to A+ Jupiter to begin a rehab assignment. The former 2nd Overall pick has been out since June 2nd.

We looked to avoid the sweep with Nick Neidert (1-5, 7.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) taking on Tyler Watson (2-3, 4.93 ERA, 1.50 WHIP). This will probably be Neidert's last start of the season. We allowed 4 in the 9th and were swept with another 5-4 loss.

No fault to Neidert, who went 5 innings with 2 hits, a run, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Koda Glover, Luiz Gohara, Ben Popkin, and Joe Jimenez earned holds. Yasukzu Shoitani had a rough day, 5 hits and 4 runs with a walk and 2 strikeouts in 0.2 innings. Ryan Mountcastle was 2-for-5 with a triple. Lewis Brinson was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Nick Feight was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI's and a double. Nick Gorodn was 1-for-4 with an RBI, double, and run scored. Cole Roederer was 1-for-3 with a run scored and walk, as well as a double.

Getting swept sucked, but I can live with it, as we only lost our lead by 1, but now Atlanta is 2 out, with New York still three. Tomorrow we got a day off.

August 17th, 2023: I optioned Nick Neidert to AAA to recall Tylor Megill from his rehab assignment. Megill will enter the 3rd spot in the rotation behind Jake Florence.

With our 2 game lead, we have a nice homestand approaching. We'd start with Arizona, an even 60-60, 3rd in their division, but would be 5th in ours. We'd face Dylan Bundy (5-5, 5.11 ERA), Jean-Christophe Hernandez (3-8, 6.24 ERA), and Zach Linginfelter (6-8, 5.47 ERA). Let's kick it in to full gear as the playoffs slowly approach!
