1966 NHL Offseason News and Notes

Here are the offensive leaderboards for the season.

Here are the goalie leaderboards for the season.

Here are the playoff leading scorers.

At age 38, Gordie Howe has won his 7th Hart trophy! It’s been 7 years since the last time Howe took the honor. Gordie had 73 points in 70 games, and led the Wings to game 7 of the finals.

Pierre Pilote also won his 6th Norris trophy. That number is incredible, as 34 year old defensemen are not supposed be this good. Pilote is arguably the best defenseman in NHL history at this point. It’s always hard to compare, especially in a text sim, but I would have to say Eddie Shore and Pilote are a clear 1/2 either way.

A two notable retirements. Bill Gadsby has called it a career. The 38 years old was a 2 time Norris trophy winner as the leagues best defenseman. After years of excellence in Montreal, he was dealt in a deal I criticized, to the NY Rangers. He spent 5 years in New York, but age caught up with him. Gadsby retires with 570 points in 1148 games.

Montreal’s Dickie Moore is hanging them up after a 17 year professional career. Moore spent this last season playing with the Canadiens farm team. At 35, Moore lost a lot, fairly fast. He holds the single season scoring record, and is the only player ever to hit 100 points! In his 868 games, Moore tallied 769 points. He also has an impressive 124 playoff points in 138 games!

The Canadiens have decided to retire Bill Gadsby’s number, and I have decided to honour Dickie Moore’s number!

The Rangers have hit the lottery. Bobby Orr is a member of the team after being drafted first overall. Orr’s offensive skill is ready to play right now, and produce a pretty productive player. We all know how good Orr was in real life. I’m really curious to see how he performs here. Can he take this franchise and turn them around?!

Chicago makes the obvious pick at 2, but ofcourse, it’s another goalie!! Ken Dryden is an insanely talented potential franchise goalie. Chicago now has Roger Crozier, Tony Esposito, Rogie Vachon and now, Ken Dryden, playing behind 34 year old Glenn Hall. Dryden and Esposito have star potential. Vachon and Crozier should be starters. MAKE SOME TRADES CHICAGO!! Esposito is now 23. He needs to play. His 138 games in the AHL over the last 5 years isn’t gonna help him anymore.

Ted Lindsay has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame! Terrible Ted is one of our greatest players. He is the 30th member of this elite group, the first since Maurice Richard’s induction in 1963, and just the third of the decade! Maybe I'm too hard on who i let in?

The Toronto Maple Leafs changed up their logo and uniforms. Here is their new look.
