Baseball-Reference, Juan Carty had no professional experience prior to signing with Seattle. He hailed from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic where he played sandlot ball (FWIW, he was 8-1 in sandlot ball). Expansion teams take their players wherever they can find them.
