Vegas is the AL's top scoring offense coming into the week

  • 7/3: FLA 7 NY 5 (10) Barranco 3-5 GW 2B HR (15) 3 RBI (58) Benoit SV (20)
  • 7/4: NY 3 FLA 2 Chase blows a 2-1 lead in 8th (11-3 3.01) 7.2 IP 3 ER 5 K 5 BB
  • Ajanie Foggie was hurt in a collision at Alamogordo today. He's hitting .320-7-29 in 31 games since being sent down.
  • 21-year-old Max Ramirez is 16 for his last 36 with 4 HR and 10 RBI and is hitting .301-11-40 on the year.
  • 19-year-old OF prospect Layne Jardin was recently promoted to SS Hobbs and has gone 18-35 with a HR and 11 RBI. He went 3-5 and drove in 6 today.
  • Pat Scott (DEN) hit 3 HR and drove in 6 in an 8-4 win over Minnesota
  • 7/5: FLA 7 LV 2 Ramirez W (8-1) 7 IP 3 H 4 K 1 ER Benoit SV (21) Harris 3-5 2B RBI
  • Baden Stennings (SAN) tossed a 3-hitter striking out 6 in a 6-0 win over San Diego
  • Milwaukee sent top P prospect Tim Steele (#36) and catcher Randy Brown to Kansas City for reliever Amari Worlds (0-2 3 SV) and 21-year-old RP prospect Dave Cravin.
  • Washington sent OF prospect Meiji Hayashi (#159) and veteran 1B Greg Wotruba (.269-13-28) and his 1.9m dollar contract to Phoenix in exchange for SP Alfredo Medina (3-2 5.83 AAA) and P Prospect Bunji Nakagawa (#175). Wotruba's contract runs through 2007. He's hit 208 career home runs and has a career slash line of .295/.373/.526 in 1034 games.
  • 7/6: FLA 12 LV 7 Haupt 2-5 2 HR (21) 5 RBI (54) Hayashi 2 HR (25) 2 RBI (67) Benoit SV (22)
  • Luis Figueroa homered early on and then was drilled in the 7th, he charged, he's suspended. The club will pay his fine. We mentioned at the break his 18 HBP were ridiculous and the team took care of one of its own. That's what we want and expect.
  • Omar Samedi (ALK) punched out 16 and allowed 1 hit over 8 strong innings in a 3-1 win over St Louis.

    ABA NEWS
LEAGUE SUSPENDS 2 IN TARPON, LAS VEGAS BENCH CLEARER
Luis Figueroa of Florida and Las Vegas reliever Quintin Atteridge were both suspended after today's bench-clearing brawl. Figueroa was suspended 3 games while Atteridge will have to sit out 6.
“It's weak, it's selfish and it's stupid. I homer and they're going to drill me because they can't get me out” said the 25-year-old 3B who is hitting .303-15-45.
“Really? He said that?” Atteridge replied. “Maybe is his $%#@!$ $## didn't take a week to round the bases on a fence scraper he wouldn't get himself drilled”.
Obviously, Atteridge didn't hide the fact of intent which many believe is the reason he got 6 games instead of the usual 3.
Las Vegas fancies themselves as the team to beat in the AL and Florida has beaten them 4 of 7 meetings to date.
Veteran Jorge Saiz tossed a CG 6-hitter with 8 punchouts to lead Alamogordo to a 10-1 win. He's 6-6 on the year and pitching consistently well. Teams are starting to call.

  • 7/7: LV 8 FLA 5 Allen, Grab 2.2 IP 6 H 4 ER Hayashi 3-4 HR (26) 4 RBI (71)
  • 7/8: OFF DAY
  • Damn. LA Storm traded knuckleballer Jon Girard and a veteran LHP to acquire Tim Taylor and minor leaguer Chris Madura. Taylor was the Spartans 1st pick, 3rd overall, out of Kansas State. He is coming off a .292-30-95 season hitting .253-13-39 this year. Our scouting dept. loves him (3*).
  • Veteran readers might remember Girard and my desire to draft him. I waited too long!
  • Some major names changing places in Milwaukee and New England. The Minutemen acquire star 3B Alfredo Ulloa and C prospect Vince Rydell (Milwaukee took him in the 2nd round last month) and send veteran RP Jarod Hurlson and 26-year-old star in the making Jim Carr, a right-handed reliever just 26 years old.
  • Ulloa has hit .282/.343/.494 in 505 career games with 100 HR and 287 RBI. New England is 43-44 but leading the NL East by 3 games. Milwaukee is 17 games under .500 and trying to put something together for next year.
  • Remember Esteban Cobos? He of the 43 game hitting streak? The 20-year-old was sent packing today. He and veteran 1B Chris Spriggs were sent to Jacksonville and Washington acquired 40-year-old reliever Josh Missouri and 22 year old OF prospect Luis Nieves.
  • 7/9: FLA 6 DET 2 Camp W (6-5 3.69) 6 IP 5 H 11 K 0 ER Haupt HR (22) Rand 3-4
  • Chris Mattingly L (9-3 3.19) 5 IP 7 H 4 ER
  • Not sure what's going on in St Louis. They traded 22-year-old pitching prospect Ernesto Madrid for 30-year-old reliever Frank Leger. Leger is a stud for sure, 56 K's in 33 IP this year but they're 40-48 (far better record than I thought btw) and 14 games out of a wild-card spot.
AL POTW - Pat Scott (DEN) 8-20 4 HR 8 RBI (.219-12-37)
NL POTW – Dan Detray (TEX) 10-22 4 HR 12 RBI (.332-23-62)

Rio Rancho 2B Billy Howard took home POTW honors going 10-18 3 HR 9 RBI and is hitting .391-5-17 since being drafted last month.
